Dr. Shirazi is a Registered Psychology Assistant practicing in Encino, CA. She has an extensive background in helping children and their families impacted by various conditions such as, Autism, Asperger’s Disorder, Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and other childhood social-emotional-behavioral problems. Her doctoral thesis, “Families of Children with Autism: Parental Psychological Well-being”, focuses on the significance of parents’ emotional coping and adjusting to having a child diagnosed with autism.
She has years of experience applying floor-time therapy and applied behavior analysis when working with children on the autism spectrum ranging between the ages of 3 and 18 years old. Dr. Shirazi has also helped individual adults dealing with mood and anxiety disorders, marital conflicts, as well as parenting strategies.
As a multi-cultural clinician, she offers a unique and well-rounded approach to serve her clients. She has successfully worked with many individuals and families of diverse social economic and cultural backgrounds in a variety of environments such as college campuses, government sponsored agencies, community counseling centers, as well as in-home and in-school settings. Furthermore, she has hands on experience with individual educational planning (IEP), regional center programs, and cognitive and social-emotional assessments.
Her success with her clients is anchored in her theoretical and personal approach based on the belief that any sustainable individual change is contingent on a desirable systematic modification. Moreover, when working with individuals, Dr. Shirazi utilizes the therapeutic relationship as well as her knowledge about cognitive processes to address symptoms impairing the client’s functioning.
Dr. Shirazi holds a B.A., two Masters’ Degrees (Counseling and Clinical Psychology) and a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Multi-cultural diversity. She is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Los Angeles County Psychological Association (LACPA), and the Western Psychological Association (WASC). Lastly, she has presented her research outcomes at WASC on numerous occasions.
